As far as I know there are people from US Army, NASA scientists, NFL players, pastors etc.....from different background are very successfully building the franchise business. No wonder they are growing $1.2 billion dollars every year since 1950.

I mailed the following message to Senators, Representatives, President's Office, various News organizations sometime in April this year. No one bought it except for some standard reply from the Senator's Offices. At this time, when they have bigger issues, we would be at the bottom of the pile -
"The Economy is inching towards Recession. The President’s Economic stimulus plan will take at least 6 months to bring in the questionable benefits of the Plan. The Fed is aggressively cutting interest rates to turn around the economy. The questionable benefits of these will take a minimum of 6 months to bear fruit.
Nothing can prevent the economy from going into Recession if the Housing crisis is not fixed, neither the Economic stimulus nor the Feds cutting the interest rates.
Now, how do we fix this Housing Crisis. We need to figure out a way to add home buyers. Now, where are the buyers, you may ask. There is surprisingly an easy answer – Employment based Legal Immigrants. These are immigrants who came into this country legally, pay their taxes and social security and who apply for their Employment based Green Cards, the legal way.
There is a huge backlog of employment based legal immigrants who are waiting to get their Employment based permanent residency (Green card). There are approximately 750,000 applicants in line. This backlog has been caused by the annual quota of employment based green cards whose annual limit (140,000) was set decades ago.
These are the immigrants who have already passed through two stages of immigration processes – the Labor Certification where it has been verified that no American talent has been available for the Job Descriptions these immigrants were hired for and The I-140 where the employer is verified to be a genuine employer with financial ability to pay for the immigrants so that they don’t become a liability for the state. They are in the final stage of the Green Card process where this huge back log is.
On top of this, visas not used on a calendar year due to enough resources not available to process them, are wasted. Over the years, these un-used visas amount to around 160,000.
Increasing the annual quota of employment based Green cards from 140,000 to 300,000 would be ideal. Even Microsoft’s Bill Gates has supported this idea in his recent Congressional testimony on March 12, 2008. But that would require the act of Congress and the Senate and it needs to take its course. We need an immediate solution. Re-capturing the unused visas just needs some administrative fixes and this has been done in the past as recent as 2005.
Senator John Cornyn is working on an Amendment that would allow the Department of State and DHS to recapture unused employment based visas. Refer -

Has anybody really tried to get a mortgage recently? I have been denied by 8 lenders so far simply because I don't have a green card. Most lenders have tightened their underwriting guidelines. They will give mortgages only to U.S.Citizens or somebody who is a permanent resident aka having a green card. There are very very few lenders who will give mortgages to somebody on a visa and the rates may not be very favorable.

Seems to be a fair idea even though I don't qualify. I did a dumbest thing of buying house in 2006 even before apply for the Green card ( though I submitted all required documents in 2004, my corporate company filed only in 2006 waiting for PERM process to stabilize).
I'm still hanging on my house though it lost 27% value with no GC or not even approved 140 ...

I have no problem with any individual but I hate my ex employer and their class ( in no uncertain terms ). I was earning for them , but he and his wife used to behave like big boss to me.Why I shed no tears for them. They think themselves as Ambani but will not hire few good marketing folks who can bring projects from direct clients. There business model is like the following example ( joke ). A bihari gone to punjab and started working for sardarji for food and shelter.While he asked the sardarji for food , he said go that building eat as much you want and take this tifin box and pack some food for me too. Just tell them that I have sent you . After some time Bihari came to know that it was Gurudwara and food was lunger. I consider these body shop no different then that Sardarji. Opening a co ( body shop ) requires phone and outlook. WOW. The h1b rules allow a space for them. With this new rule , they are gone for good. Let me make it very clear , I hate body shopper . It is mere chance that they are from particular state. I fully sympathize with all H1B holder and again let me insist all deserving H1b people will be better off with this memo. I didn't generalize. I said preponderence meaning "a lot of" cases with L1/B1/H1 and I am also not denying the fact the India is doing a great job in producing IT skills in great numbers. I am saying how they end up in America in greater numbers than any other country. China, Pakistan, Israel also produces lots of IT gradutes but they don't have the bodyshop connection to land here with an NIIT certificate.
Then pray why people from other countries are not landing IT jobs?. Can I say that NIIT teaching is better than the teachings in the universities of the countries you have mentioned?.

Every time I hear "Canadian taxes are so much higher", I respond back with "really ? how much are you paying a month for health insurance?". I suggest a typical breadwinner with spouse + 2 dependents is probably paying $500 / mo + in health insurance premiums. Add that $6K / yr to your US tax bill, then compare it to your Canadian tax bill. ;)

She was licensed by the state as she has great experience and she passed all the tests needed. She has been very well practising dentistry for almost 2.5-3 years now in the US. However, Canada does not let internationally trained dentists get licensed without going to Canadian/American dental school. If you know of any place in CA which would license my wife as she has more than 7 years of exp (4+in India, alomst 3 in USA) and had passed all exams (Board, licensing etc etc), please let me know. That is the single most imp reason for me to still hang im here.

Its just that you chose not to leave. The correct description of the situation is - you are imposing slavery upon yourself and asking for remedy from the government. Isn't that correct? Jazzy is simply saying that you can leave if you don't like it. So you are not a slave. Its that simple.

A person can kill himself to solve all his problems. But that is not the point. If I have come here to work and you have things setup in a way that it can be used to exploit you ( e.g. employer holding back your pay for no valid reason) that amounts to indirectly supporting slave business. The word "slave" doesn't make high tech workers comfortable because they don't want to be categorized as such. If you look at the way most of us work here, it is almost same. Someone (called ur employer) brings you here, he puts you in a place to work reporting to a differnet master sometime many. This exactly how slave trade was working in olden days, but today instead of us working in plantations or laying highways we are working on the building the IT super highway.

A person can kill himself to solve all his problems. But that is not the point. If I have come here to work and you have things setup in a way that it can be used to exploit you ( e.g. employer holding back your pay for no valid reason) that amounts to indirectly supporting slave business. The word "slave" doesn't make high tech workers comfortable because they don't want to be categorized as such.
