I cannot think of any one good leader left in india. not one who can rise above self-interest and narrow mentality. Can you imagine any one of the so called leaders that was mentioned in this list leading the nation, and not be a laughing stock? remember deva gowda at davos...made a mockery of India there. Mayawati/modi, etc. what kind of leadership qualities (international affairs/finance/etc) do they have? the only kind of experience they have is gundaism, and creating conflicts with caste, culture and religion.

I am finally moving to canada in 2-3 months. Deadline for landing is March 3rd 2007.

I know this guy who was a junior to me and reporting to me in India. I resigned and moved with another company and later moved to US. After an year I joined the same company which I was working in India. Now this guy, just because having some relation with the VP made some arrangement and came to US on L1 and applied under EB1 and got his GC in 1.5 years. More over he was no good as manager and a pathetic programmer. Also he did no good to the company actually lost a few clients and when he got his ass on fire he moved to other company and started working as a pathetic programmer with his GC

I was also mad like you are today when the lawyers were busy filing for 140 + 485 during the entire month of July 07 and ignoring other applicants. I counted all the way from 100.:D
And now you can also imagine how mad would many EB3-I filers would be with PDs in early 2002.

Indian constitution (or concept of united India) is brand new compare to regional history. Naturally, regional interest always prevails. So ruling India is still a new and uphill task. 60 years is very less to come to conclusion. Thats why, all congress PMs had failed in reforms. And now in the information age, India become materialistic, everybody wants everything. So naturally corruption increases. So one can not blame just congress alone for the mess.

It is really pathetic to see the current plight of H1B. It is really sad and the situation is getting worse with the passing of each day. The max limit of H1B is only 65000. It is highly regulated and accountable. Why is everyone hounding H1B without rhyme or reason? It is because most of them perhaps do not have a good picture of what is happening around.
Do the people who are after the H1B folks realize the following?
1. About 100,000 or may be many times that number (I do not know) of L1 workers are brought to work to the USA? Do they realize that there is NO quota limit for L1?
2. How the L1A visa is misused in the guise of the so called "International transfer" to file for GC under EB1 category?
3 That many of the Indian / foreign firms no longer prefer to sendi their employees on H1 as they can send plane loads of L1 without any hitch?
3. Every minute several 1000s of jobs are outsourced ?
The root cause is because the immigration system is broken and the policies are not OK. Going behind H1 B Visa holders is not the answer

However what we as a community should realize is this is just the first trick under the sleeves of anti-immigrants supported by grassley and co. Once consulting companies are out of the picture, they will target permanent employers with conditions like "the company should not have fired any US citizen in the past 6 months or plan to layoff any citizen in the upcoming 6 months." They could come up with additional restrictions for direct employers as well.

as most of us here, I think this is something we should explore. I think this is a complete discrimination and if US wants to limit/diversify within EB category as well (which I think is absurd to start with, because this is employment based, all that should count is your credentials/education... ) then it should be somehow proportionate to the country size/population as well.

Dillip good luck with your new challenge man. I understand you are currently in a difficult situation hope you will come out of it. Just one note though. Having graduated from a top school doesnt give anybody a right to top pay check and job security. I myself an IIT grad with a PhD from US- currently with Intel. I was expecting everybody to lap me up right out of undergrad. All I got was a chance. I learnt my ways- u have to demonstrate your skills today and dont expect a 10 year old paper diploma to make your living. Anyway I am also in a 485 EB2 Q. I am not fretting though- if it comes its a bonus for me, but doesnt change anything for me. I will still live in same home, get same pay, drive same car and get my patents published with same skills. :D

Have several question:
1. How many non-Indian in USA that watch bollywood movie? So, what makes him a high profile in the eyes of Immigration officer (IO)? Do we need to educate all IO to recoqnize all the actors in India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Korea and all others?
I personally never heard of this SRK guy before reading this thread. So how would you guys expect the immigration officer, who's mostlikely non-Indian, would know this guy? I agree with Pappu that says "He is a famous actor to a very very small minority Indian Community in USA".
2. Looking at how he make big deal of this in media. He probably cause this delay by himself. I can imagine the conversation at the immigration office as (copying all the answer from Ryan's earlier comment on what he's asked for when he came here):
IO: Why are you visiting US?
SRK: Do you know that I'm SRK?
IO: Who do you work for?
SRK: I'm SRK, now let me pass.
IO: Where will you live in US?
SRK: I'm SRK

I know a friend of mine who was waiting in line for the visa interview and ofcourse he is a megalomaniac (world revolves around him). He saw (or imagined) the visa officer talking tough to a women who apparently did not understand english right in front of him and decided he has to be the mesiah (savior). He jumped in and tried to save the women. Ultimately he was denied the visa and ofcourse he later met the women outside who was smiling because she had been granted one. that is why your conversation makes very good sense here. Hi,
I am on H1B (7th year and got extended for 3 yrs) and applied 485, received EAD from company A (140 approved).
I am asked to join Client by Company A due to some benefits both of us would receive. But Client wont support H1 so I need to use EAD.
Since EB3 is in very bad situation, Can I file new Perm, 140 and port my PD for EB2 using Company C for future position? I have position, salary and exp required for EB2. When should I join Company C if I choose this route?

A question about the FB spillover: according to your data, there are about 30000 FB visa spillover from last year. But does USCIS have to use up all of them? If the answer is yes, then the September VB will very likely be current. If the USCIS only need to use up the 147000 EB and use whatever portion of the FB spillover, then September VB may not move.
They can waste numbers and come up with excuses. But because of criticism from Ombudsman, Congress, etc it looks like they are trying to shape up. They can adjudicate 30 k petitions are more in 2 months if they are committed to. We could get an idea, if there is a deluge of approvals in the first half of August.

It is very clear that there is absolutely no meaning for "quota" on 485 applicants.
They are allowed to continue to stay in US forever, from the date of their application (assuming the case is good, and eventually will be approved, when visa is available).
So the whole argument about "diversity" or even "controlled immigration" doesn't stand, since the 485 applicants are here permanently "except" for an official "GC card".
The only thing the "quota" does is creating "uncertainty" in the mind of genuine applicants. This causes less spending, less home buying and eventually causing bad for the US economy. This just creates a second layer of "tax-payers" who have extremely high "purchase power", but doesn't utilize their purchase power, due to "uncertainity"
I wonder why the politicians doesn't realize this simple fact yet?
They either shouldn't allow 485's to wait in US (for diversity & controlled immigration claim), or should just remove the quota for 485's, and let them live their lives & utilize their purchase power to help US economy.
Note that Adjustment of Status ( AOS) concept itself is a benefit to future immigrants who are already in the US (as a visitor, or guest worker), so that they don't have to go back to their country and wait for their turn. This in a way violates the country quota system. Normally people should apply for immigration from their home country, and come to the US only when they are accepted as immigrants. We are here in contradiction to the legal diversity requirement supposed to be enforced via country quotas, but we now say that there should not be such a diversity requirement because we are here anyway. Corruption, particularly in India, is like a software, which only gets better with every release. YSR took the corruption to a level unknown till now, I bet he'd put lalloo to shame. What development are you talking about. Don't you hear increase in inflation, or farmers suicide or land grabbing. If you haven't visited Hyderabad recently, you better do it soon, else by the time you visit next time you won't see hussain saagar, but a few multiplxes or luxury homes instead. I'm sure in the next release (read CB Naidu becoming CM), he might take it to a whole new level.

Education and Medical have become Biggest Money spinning businesses in India now. One has to shell out Rs. 30 to 50 Lakhs for a MBBS seat and about Rs. 5 to Rs.10 Lakhs for an Engineering seat in good colleges. How can middle class people can pay this money?. They are deprived of good education though, they pay taxes honestly and sincerely to government. It is really unfortunate. For people who have block money, these things do not matter

ANY THING CAN BE DONE EVEN IN TIRUMALA TEMPLE, EDUCAIONAL INSTITUTIONS, MEDICAL PROFESSION WHICH ARE CONSIDERED TO BE HOLY PROFESSIONS.
THE AMOUNT TO BE GIVEN AS "BRIBE" IN BURIAL YARD(S) IN INDIA, WHEN A PERSON DIE, FOR BURNING THE BODY, FOR GETTING DEATH CERTIFICATE, (THESE ARE IN ADDITION TO OFFICIAL FEES PAID TO MUNICIPALIIES FOR BURNING THE BODY FOR FIRE WOOD ETC.). The amount to be spend after death in India now comes to Lakhs of Rupees for doing all types of cermonies, merging ashes in Ganga at Varanasi and other holy places, giving gifts/charities to pandits, giving advertisements in newspapers, arranging feasts BHOJANALU to thousands of people (so called relatives), friends. This is in addition to LARGE SUMS OF MONEY PAID TO DOCTORS FOR SO CALLED CURING OF SICKNESS.
In many cases, many middle class people becomes BEGGERS/PAUPERS after getting into hospitals, nursing homes etc. just before dyeing.
